Icemaker-ERWIMFollow the steps below:

  1. Use a cup to pour water into the ice maker mold.
  2. Close the freezer door and wait for two hours.

If the ice maker makes cubes and kicks them into the bucket – the water inlet valve is bad.

Hi, Jim, My Frigidaire SxS refrigerator had its ice making slow over the past couple of weeks and now has stopped making ice. The water dispenser gives water but at a slow rate. The water filter is good according to the fridge’s electronic display. Since I get water out of the door, does this rule out both the water valve at the bottom back of the fridge being bad as well as the inside of the fridge water filter needing replacing or not?

    • Jim Plummer says:

      Louis,
It is likely the two problems are not related. I would replace the water filter to address the slow water flow because it is easy to do and it is going to be replaced eventually anyway. The water valve can affect the flow to the water dispenser, but it is much less common problem than the filter.

If the temperature in the freezer is below freezing, the icemaker can be tested by manually pouring water into the mold. If it makes ice and dumps it in the bucket after a couple of hours, then the water valve is bad. If ice is not dumped into the bucket, then the icemaker is bad. Why not buy only the,( control madulos assembly),not the whole
    Ice maker. Un-less is broke.

    • Jim Plummer says:

      John,

The module will repair some ice maker problems, but not all ice maker problems. The complete ice maker is a good value when you consider the additional troubleshooting time and the additional assembly time. In addition, the ice maker mold does wear over time.

More information is needed. Are the a/c lines freezing near the outdoor unit or are the freezing near the indoor unit? There may be a simple solution to your problem. Please call 972 780-9096 and we will help you find the problem.
